The Kids Table

I am not sure who was the original brain behind the concept of “the kids table” at Thanksgiving…. but they should have another holiday purely to honor their brilliant idea. Maybe it was just because there simply isn’t enough room at most tables to fit the kids well— but I would like to think that something as great as the kids table was an intentional concept.

The kids table was the always the place to be on Thanksgiving. That’s were siblings and cousins unite to discuss the important things in life. You know, like what you were asking Santa for, your tactic for stealing extra dessert while the adult were cleaning up, or how you were going to convince your parents to let your cousins have a Thanksgiving sleeep-over. I remember one year my older cousin, Tommy, graduated to the grown ups table and even though I knew I loved the kids table, I whined until my mother made a makeshift spot for me between my dad and grandma. The grass was not greener on the other side.

If you have some little ones who will be celebrating at their own kids table this year, here are some ideas to help inspire a little extra atmosphere and fun.

I thought that these little hand print turkey cookies were an adorable idea for a kids table setting. What kiddo wouldn’t love sitting down to a cookie with their name on it? If you would like to make some of your won, visit Somewhat Simple and see their step by step tutorial. :)

Here is a fun way to display some pre dinner snacks on your kids table. Leave it to Martha Stewart to come up with something as clever as a paper bag turkey that is stuffed full of popcorn.

I loved Small Fry’s idea for a “Mini Thanksgiving”. They not only had the cutest decorated table… but I loved the menu. Go and check it out! (I dare you.)

I thought the simplicity of this table was really clever. First of all… you can’t go wrong covering acids table in paper. Drawing and doodling before and during a meal can really buy you some time to eat yourself and visit with you great aunt Cora twice removed who you only see once a year at Thanksgiving.   At this table each child received a special box with Thanksgiving activities inside. Brilliant. Go and visit The Glamorous Housewife to see more.

I know I would not be complaining if there were a Caramel Apple Bar in the center of my Thanksgiving table… and I am betting that your kids wouldn’t be either. To find the recipe for this yummy Crock-Pot caramel sauce go and check out My Frugal Adventures.

I have never been a huge fan of using cornucopias as decorations, but I wouldn’t mind getting one of these filled with candy. I am sure your kids wouldn’t mind either. If you would like to make these Cornucopia Place Cards at your kids table, visit Caramel Potatoes.

There were so many gorgeous ideas for Thanksgiving on Porch, but this kids table idea is amazing! I love playing tic-tac-toe…. so I imagine that playing tic-tac-toe with mini pumpkins is even more fun.
