  • Heart Attack

    If you are looking for a fun way to surprise a loved one for Valentine’s Day… look no further. This year instead of picking up a card at Walgreen’s, why not try setting up a “Heart Attack”? It’s pretty self explanatory– simply cover a place in hearts. I did my family’s front lawn/porch, but you can do your Heart Attack anywhere. You can try your friend’s car, your wife’s office, if you are a teacher you could Heart Attack your classroom… let your imagination go wild.

    There is really no wrong way to do a Heart Attack. Here is how I did my “Heart Attack” to give you a little inspiration…

  • Nickey’s Bookshelf {Chapter 5: Books for Baby}

    It’s time for “Chapter 5” of Nickey’s Bookshelf!

    I am sorry it’s been so long. I feel like my life was hijacked during the holidays and I am just starting to get a good rhythm again. If you are new to this blog, this is my little corner of the web to share some of my favorite children’s books I have collected over the past 11 years as a nanny (or have put on my wish list). This month I have decided to show you some of my favorite board books for baby. There are of course all of the obvious classics like Dr. Seuss, Margaret Wise Brown, and Eric Carle– but I thought I would take a few minutes to show you some of my more contemporary picks!

    Here we go!

  • Cupid’s Garden

    The aisles at every grocery store in town are full of chocolates, hearts and candy… you know what that means– Valentine’s Day is upon us.

    A few months ago while on a long weekend to the Cotton Candy Kingdom (CCK), my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, I ran into Cupid. When it’s not Valentine’s Day, he spends his time planting a giant lollipop garden in the CCK. Where do you think all of that Valentine’s candy comes from? Anyhow, it got me thinking and I came up with a fun Valentine activity to do with your own little cherubs. Perhaps it will become a new Valentine tradition in your family. :)

  • Gum Ball Paint

    Playing with your food is always fun… often frowned upon… but always fun. In my opinion, playing with candy is the ultimate fun when it come to food playing. It’s so bright, colorful and sweet. Well, other day my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I went to the candy shop in town. We got all sorts of fun stuff! I didn’t realize on our walk home that there was a small hole in my bag. I began to notice that my bag was getting lighter, and turned around to see some of my gum balls had fallen onto the ground and rolled into a puddle. I was really bummed… until I walked over and saw what had happened in the puddle. The gum balls began to bleed colors in the puddle and made the water rainbow colors. I kicked one of the gum balls out of the puddle and onto the sidewalk. It made a beautiful marbled streak as it rolled around and eventually landed in the grass. Needless to say that Sprinkles and I hurried home with our remaining gum balls to make some beautiful gum ball art.

  • Crayon & Sandpaper Iron-Ons

    If there is one thing that Sprinkles and I like to do, it’s melt down crayons into all different kinds of arts and crafts. We just love how the colors melt and swirl together. Today we decided to try a different kind of melt down. Did you even know that it is possible to make homemade iron-ons with crayons and sandpaper? Well it is, and it’s amazing! You guys should totally try it.

  • Monster Printing

    My pet unicorn, Sprinkles, has a good friend back home in the Cotton Candy Kingdom. She is a little yellow fairy named Buttercream. I love her– she is seriously the sweetest! Buttercream is very afraid of finding monsters under her bed. Every time she comes to have a sleep over at our house she is up half the night… even after we use our homemade Monster Spray. Poor little girl.

  • Magic Marshmallow Paint

    Having a pet unicorn is just as it sounds…. magical. Sprinkles, teaches me all sorts of super fun things from her “hometown” in the Cotton Candy Kingdom. Recently I posted a project called Hot Chocolate Paint. If you have not tried it already, you totally should! In it, I shared what paints are made from in the Cotton Candy Kingdom. I love that Sprinkles grew up painting with candies. I asked her it we could try out her recipe for white paint, as I had a a couple packs of Jet-Puffed Marshmallows at our house. She told me that we could make a whole pant set out of marshmallows because it’s a white base and we could add our own colors. I was sold.
