Pancake Art

Spring is here! I love spring so much. You see, unicorns are allergic to fall because that’s when things die and lose their vibrant colors- which we unicorns need to keep our immune systems up. Spring is when everything re-blooms and is full of color. While Nickey is off with itchy eyes and sneezing her little human head off, I am thriving. I feel sorry for her since she loves the weather and all the booming flowers– but she is not able to really enjoy them. Allergies are the pits.

This year to kick off spring break, Nickey and I decided to make a fun breakfast! Pancake Art! It mixes two of our favorite things… breakfast foods and colors! We started out making some nice spring themed pancakes– and then we just let our imaginations go! If you are looking for something a little more special for breakfast during the break- look no further! Your kiddos are sure to love these!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Pancake Batter

Condiment Squeeze Bottles

Food Coloring

Griddle or Frying Pan

Spray Oil or Butter

Spatula

Let’s get started…

1.) Prepare your pancake batter as directed on the box and add just tad more water then normal. Not too much! Just enough to make your batter the right consistency to squeeze through the bottle. We added about 2 tbsp. more than normal.

2.) Divide your batter evenly into each of your condiment squeeze bottles.

3.) Add about 20 drops of desired food coloring to each bottle and shake well.  Here are our colors, I think they turned out beautiful. :)

5.) Spray your griddle with oil and squeeze your fun pancake colors out to make beautiful art! Once they begin to bubble like this, flip them over!

Note:  If you are going to do a design or a face on your pancake, star by drawing the outline, add the desired face of design, an then cover with batter until your pancake is a solid piece. Don’t worry! When you flip your pancake it will all be there! Here is an example for you. Nickey wanted a heart with polka-dots, so first she made the outline, then added the dots, then covered with yellow and red batter. When she flipped it… viola! Pretty polka-dotted heart pancakes!

6.) Top them with butter and syrup (or more of your favorite toppings) and eat them up!
