  • Homemade Snow

I grew up in Alaska. Yes, Alaska. There were always an ample amount of snowy days in the year to indulge my childhood imagination in. My brother and I used to have the best time in the snow! We would build tunnels, snow forts, villages, armies of snowmen– and one year our dad even shoveled our roof… and the pile reached the second story of our house! We spent the our whole weekends sledding from the upstair deck and loving our lives. Good times. It’s hard to realize how cool it is to have something around all the time until you don’t have it anymore. Then I moved to Australia. Then LA. I began to miss the snow. I know those days were pre Sprinkles (my pet unicorn). She and I hadn’t run into each other in New York yet. But I have to tell you…. they were magical in their own special way. There’s really nothing like the magic of childhood.

  • Thankful Jar

I love Thanksgiving. Besides the fact that the dinner is delicious (so delicious)– I love that there is a holiday that gives me the opportunity to teach the importance of thankfulness to the little ones in my life. Let’s face it… there is quite a lot of entitlement going around these days– so it is great to remember to keep thankfulness at the forefront. This year, Sprinkles and I came up with this simple project to help your family count their blessings. We are going to give it a try as well.

  • 15 Halloween Crafts For Kids

I am extra excited about Halloween this year. It’s not usually high on my excitement list, as I am not into dark things– but this year I am bringing some color to Halloween night! Sprinkles and I are not only dressing up like butterflies this year– but we are having a Colors Are Magic porch party for my trick-or-treaters! It’s going to be a blast and  I have some fun ideas up my sleeve, but I thought I would take to Pinterest to see if there were any fun ideas I maybe missing out on. There are some really adorable and clever things out there, so I thought I would put together a little post for any of you who are looking for some Halloween crafts to do with your little pumpkins this week leading up to All Hallows’ Eve.

  • Secret Spider Webs

I can’t believe that Halloween is less than 2 weeks away. Seriously, where did the year go? Rhetorical.

Anyhow, one of my favorite crafts to do with my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, is Secret Scribbles. They are super simple and totally fun to do. So, I decided to do a little Halloween version with her tonight. If you are looking around for a Halloween craft to do with your little pumpkins, this is a great option.

  • Baby’s First Halloween | 15 Adorable Costumes

Babies. Let’s face it, they are already super cute– but add a Halloween costume and your heart may just explode.

I intended on asking my mother to tell me all about my first Halloween for inspiration for this post. Unfortunately, the story wasn’t much of a story. Ha! Apparently my mother was recovering from giving birth and a broken tail bone– so I stayed home and was nothing for Halloween. So let’s just get on with it.

  • Tooth Fairy Magic

It’s probably no surprise to any returning readers that I am acquaintances with the Toothy Fairy. My pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I ran into her while we were picking up a few Colors Are Magic essentials in the Cotton Candy Kingdom (if you are new to this blog… that is where Sprinkles grew up). Michael’s and Hobby Lobby are great for most of the craft and projects that we do– but sometimes you some mermaid scales or pixie dust. Those are next to impossible to find here in Colorado– but I digress.

  • 15 Nanny Hacks

Let’s face it, raising tiny humans is one of the most exhausting (and the most completely rewarding) things ever. After being a full-time nanny for 11 years, I have picked up some tricks to help me through the day… hacks if you will. Also, when Pinterest became the “thing” it was so nice to be able and see what tricks other nannies, mommies, daddies, and teachers had up their sleeves.

Here is a list of hacks that I have either found, used, or created myself. Enjoy!

  • Puffy Paint Monsters

My pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I do a lot of painting in our household. We love it all– watercolors, acrylics, finger paints, and everything in between. Today we decided to paint some colorful monsters (friendly ones, of course). They were cute… but something was missing. We were painting furry monsters, but we wanted to make the painted fur look a little more “furry”. We rummaged through our cupboards to see what we had on hand, and after a little deliberation decided on making some homemade puffy paints. Now our little monster friends have more defined and 3-D fur. Perfect.

If you would like to make your own homemade Puffy Paint Monsters, it is super simple (you may just have everything you need at home already :) ).

  • Nickey’s Bookshelf {Chapter 4: Roald Dahl}

Hi!! Happy September, and welcome back to my bookshelf!

If you’re new to this blog, this is my little corner of the web to share some of my favorite children’s books I have collected over the past 11 years as a nanny (or have put on my wish list). This month, in honor of Roald Dahl Day on the 13th, I am going to share my 4 favorite books that he wrote. He was a huge part of my childhood and was responsible for many day dreams, night dreams, and all things imagination. For that I say, thank you.
