Valentine’s Day

  • Whipped Hearts

Hey! It’s Sprinkles (Nickey’s pet unicorn).

Oh, Valentine’s Day. I know that for some people it is a bit depressing at times (I have been there– there aren’t very many unicorns in Colorado)… but I am not gonna lie…  I love it when the aisles fill up with a thousand shades of pink and hearts. It’s so pretty! One of our Valentine’s traditions is to make extra chocolatey hot chocolates and topping them with some beautiful and super yummy whipped hearts. They are perfect if you are having a Valentine’s Day or “Gal-entines Day” party!

  • 10 Fun Homemade Valentines

Hi! It’s me, Sprinkles! I am Nickey’s pet unicorn and intern here at Colors Are Magic. I am sure you are all well aware that Valentine’s Day is upon us! Also my favorite day… the day after Valentine’s day (when all of the chocolate and candy is 90% off). Ever since I moved to America from my hometown in the Cotton Candy Kingdom, I can’t seem to get enough chocolate. I guess it makes since.. I was named after my mother’s favorite food group… sprinkles.

In light of the upcoming holiday, I thought I would put together a little list of some fun homemade Valentine ideas for you to do with your kiddos. I hope you enjoy them!

  • Heart Attack

If you are looking for a fun way to surprise a loved one for Valentine’s Day… look no further. This year instead of picking up a card at Walgreen’s, why not try setting up a “Heart Attack”? It’s pretty self explanatory– simply cover a place in hearts. I did my family’s front lawn/porch, but you can do your Heart Attack anywhere. You can try your friend’s car, your wife’s office, if you are a teacher you could Heart Attack your classroom… let your imagination go wild.

There is really no wrong way to do a Heart Attack. Here is how I did my “Heart Attack” to give you a little inspiration…

  • Cupid’s Garden

The aisles at every grocery store in town are full of chocolates, hearts and candy… you know what that means– Valentine’s Day is upon us.

A few months ago while on a long weekend to the Cotton Candy Kingdom (CCK), my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, I ran into Cupid. When it’s not Valentine’s Day, he spends his time planting a giant lollipop garden in the CCK. Where do you think all of that Valentine’s candy comes from? Anyhow, it got me thinking and I came up with a fun Valentine activity to do with your own little cherubs. Perhaps it will become a new Valentine tradition in your family. :)

  • Cupid’s Snot

One of the perks of living with a unicorn is getting to go on some sweet adventures to magical lands. I am never not up for a trip to The Cotton Candy Kingdom (that’s where my pet unicorn was born and raised). It is known for many things… but one of my favorites is that it is where all of your favorite holiday legends go vacationing. Since Valentines Day is just around the corner, Cupid decided to go on a mini-vaca. Valentines Day is no small event when you are Cupid. It’s a huge responsibility to be in charge of people’s love lives. If you strike the wrong person and a couple pairs off wrong, you could potentially ruin their lives. Talk about pressure.

  • Melt My Heart(s)

Growing up my mother made my brother and me an art cupboard. I loved that art cupboard. It was always full of fun treasure– markers, crayons, construction paper, stickers, paints, and various other knick-knacks. Every so often while cleaning the house, my mother would tidy the art cupboard. I hated those days… they were the worst. She would get out a blank sheet of paper and test the markers. If they had dried out they would go into the trash can. I guess that was understandable since they no longer worked. It was the crayons that were the hardest to part with. She would throw out the little nubs of crayon that where floating around our giant box. Maybe it was because I was over dramatic… or maybe it was because I was an artistic child– with every coloring device thrown in the the garbage bin was also an opportunity to create some great. Maybe it was a control issue…. or that I was just a little kid. Whatever the reason… I was not a fan of “clean the art cupboard day” and was known to shed a tear or two on the days it commenced. Until one fine day my mother suggested that we make giant tie dye crayons out of all my broken pieces instead of throwing them away. Brilliant. I was totally onboard.
