  • 15 Fun Spring Crafts & Activities for Kids

Spring has sprung! Unless you live in Colorado like Sprinkles and I do… in that case you have been experiencing 70 degree days followed blizzards (and repeat). But that’s ok- spring is still here and since it is Sprinkles favorite part of the year, we are celebrating! You see, unicorns are allergic to fall because that’s when things die and lose their vibrant colors- which unicorns need to keep their immune systems up. Spring is when everything re-blooms and is full of color. So while I am off with itchy eyes and sneezing my little human head off, she is thriving.  Allergies are the pits.

So in honor of spring, why not celebrate with this fun list of spring themed crafts and activities? Your kids will be sure to love them (and you will as well)!

  • Easter Doh

Right after the new year, Sprinkles and I went to The Cotton Candy Kingdom for a much needed getaway. It’s nice that her parents live there– so we know we always have a place to stay. We did our usual thing; a hike up Hot Fudge Mountain, sodas with Buttercream Fairy, and of course collecting Skittles during spring rainbow showers. But this trip I decided to attend an art class. Being that everything in the Cotton Candy Kingdom is magic– I figured an art class would be pretty out of this world!

The day that I went, the Easter Bunny just so happened to be teaching the class. On his “off season” he enjoys having a creative outlet. That day he was teaching about how to make Easter Dough. I am going to pass on the recipe. Now, obviously you aren’t going to be able to find pixie dust and mermaid scales at Walmart… so unfortunately, your dough will not come to life after using cookie cutter on it– BUT you will love it!

  • Easter Crayons

If you have read my Melt My Heart(s) post, then you are familiar with my childhood story of “the art cupboard” :) If not, let me brief you. Growing up my mother made my brother and I had an art cupboard. I loved that art cupboard. Seriously. When I opened it, I may as well of been opening the door to Narnia. It was always full of fun treasure– markers, crayons, construction paper, stickers, paints, and various other knick-knacks. Every so often while cleaning the house, my mother would tidy the art cupboard. She has her own cleaning service– so she our house was always ship shape. I loathed those days… they were literally the worst. She would get out a blank sheet of paper and test the markers. If they had dried out they would go into the trash can. I guess that was understandable since they no longer worked. It was the crayons that were the hardest to part with. She would throw out the little nubs of crayon that where floating around our giant box. Maybe it was because I was over dramatic… or maybe it was because I was an artistic child– with every coloring device thrown in the the garbage bin was also an opportunity to create some great. Whatever the reason… I was not a fan of “clean the art cupboard day”. Until one fine day my mother suggested that we make giant tie dye crayons out of all my broken pieces instead of throwing them away. Brilliant. I was totally onboard.

  • Easter Bunny Snot

Hi! Its me, Sprinkles! I am Nickey’s pet unicorn and the intern here at Colors Are Magic. I am so happy to be sharing an Easter post with you this week! I am not sure if you read our last post, but Nickey told a story about how the Easter Bunny taught us to make some Easter Peeps Dough. We ran into him on our weekend trip to the Cotton Candy Kingdom. Well, it just so happened that it was that same visit that inspired this post too!

You see, the Easter Bunny is allergic to vegetables. He can only eats chocolates and Easter candies– and Nickey happened to be snacking on some cut up cucumbers. We were not aware of his allergies at this point. He sneezed a crazy big sneeze  (I apologize in advance for the TMI), and his snot when everywhere!  Once we saw the St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun sneeze and his snot was glittery and had shiny green clovers in it! Well, the Easter Bunny is no exception. His snot was iridescent, sparkly, and full of tiny pastel Easter eggs!

  • Peeps Easter Dough

You guys… it’s March. When did that happen?! Things have been a whirlwind here with Sprinkles and I, so this weekend we decided to head to her hometown in the Cotton Candy Kingdom. If you are new to this blog, Sprinkles is my pet unicorn. Her parents are the King and Queen of a magical kingdom and sometimes when we need to take a little break, we head over there to chill out.

On Friday night after arriving we ran into our old friend the Easter Bunny (you run into all of holiday icons when you visit the Cotton Candy Kingdom). It’s not uncommon to find the Easter Bunny chilling out before Easter. I mean, it’s an incredibly big job to get all of those baskets distributed and eggs hidden. Santa has elves to help him, but the Easter Bunny rides solo. Anyway, he knows how much we love to create things and decided to give us a recipe for some fun Easter themed dough made from… Peeps!
