• An Easy Way to Brighten Someone’s Day TODAY

    (A note from Nickey: I just love seeing all of the ways that others are sung to teach their little ones kindness. Thank-you, Lizzie for sharing!)

    It seems that everywhere I turn the past few weeks, everyone is feeling so BLAH. It is snowing and freezing here in the North East and warm weather cannot come soon enough. Spring is still a few weeks out, but I’ve got an easy solution to brighten your day TODAY. I promise, anyone can do it and everyone will benefit from it.

  • THROUGH INSTILLING KINDNESS

    Through instilling kindness, we create change.

    Everyday that I walk through the door of my nanny families home, I ask myself how I can be of most service to them that day and how to help foster the values that will allow them to lead the best lives possible. Over the years as showing up for families and children as a nanny, or as I view it, an extension of their parents, I’ve found that those values can shift given what it is that each family needs the most at the time. Although there are many values that I foster and that are organically integrated into the work that I do, one that has been woven through every relationship that I have built is my deep desire to show up in this world with kindness and to help others foster the same.

  • CANDY CORN PAINT

    October is here! My favorite month. I love the smell of the rain washed air, sweater weather, apple picking, pumpkin spiced everything, my birthday, Halloween, and colorful leaves! So much to love. This year Sprinkles and I decided to try our hands (and hooves) at making some homemade Candy Corn Paint- and it totally worked!

  • THE POWER OF YOUR VOICE

    {A note from Nickey: I met Emily while living overseas in Australia. Listening to her speak is like listening to sugar. She is the one of the sweetest souls that you will ever encounter. Emily makes parenting look effortless and is someone I would definitely consider a “Super-Mom”. I hope you enjoy her guest post as much I have.}

  • SNACK STAMPS

    Whenever Sprinkles and I are cooking a meal together, it is always my job to slice any fruits or veggies that we may need. Being a unicorn has it’s perks, but slicing things up with hooves is usually a disaster. Well, this weekend while slicing and dicing I noticed that some of the produce had a bit of an artistic edge to it. So after we ate lunch… we played with our food. I know growing up your mother probably told you not to do this, but please… today I am encouraging it. Here are some fun “Snack Stamp” ideas for you and your littles. Have a blast!

    When my husband and I first found out we were pregnant after being married for about a year and a half, we were over the moon excited! Both of us had lived hard and fast lives in our younger years and we secretly held some fears in our hearts that maybe we wouldn’t be able to have kids as a result. read more

    I’ve always had a thing for stained glass. It’s so pretty! I love the way that is casts colors into the room when sunshine passes through it. If you are a regular here at Colors Are Magic, you are well acquainted with our adventures to this magical land.

  • Rainbow Breathing Unicorn Craft

    I always know when Sprinkles (my pet unicorn) is coming down with a cold. She can’t hide it. You see, when unicorns are sick, they breathe rainbows. Their snot is also rainbow. I know– being a unicorn is so much fancier than being a person sometimes. Especially when it comes to being sick.

    One afternoon while trying to come up with a craft idea for the week and making chicken soup for my sick unicorn, it hit me! Rainbow Breathing Unicorns! If your little one loves them some unicorns, this craft is perfect. Read on. :)

  • Sharpie “Stained Glass” Night-lights

    My pet unicorn, Sprinkles, is very afraid of the dark. I guess it makes sense… unicorns are used to light and sparkles. At night we have a bedtime ritual. We brush our teeth, I read her a bedtime story, we spray under the beds with our Monster Spray, and then we turn on our homemade night-lights. If you have a little one who doesn’t love the dark, then you should totally try making a couple of these. :)
