  • CANDY CORN PAINT

October is here! My favorite month. I love the smell of the rain washed air, sweater weather, apple picking, pumpkin spiced everything, my birthday, Halloween, and colorful leaves! So much to love. This year Sprinkles and I decided to try our hands (and hooves) at making some homemade Candy Corn Paint- and it totally worked!

  • SNACK STAMPS

Whenever Sprinkles and I are cooking a meal together, it is always my job to slice any fruits or veggies that we may need. Being a unicorn has it’s perks, but slicing things up with hooves is usually a disaster. Well, this weekend while slicing and dicing I noticed that some of the produce had a bit of an artistic edge to it. So after we ate lunch… we played with our food. I know growing up your mother probably told you not to do this, but please… today I am encouraging it. Here are some fun “Snack Stamp” ideas for you and your littles. Have a blast!

  • Science Paint

My pet unicorn, Sprinkles has always had a knack for science. She was always at the top of her class in the Cotton Candy Kingdom (CCK). Now, science in the CCK is very different than it is here- their experiments often lead to creating magical potions and some experiments actually come life! It’s so cool. One time Sprinkles and I went over to her friend’s place to tutor his little brother with science fair project. We mixed some singing flowers, fairy dust, river soda and mermaid scales together in little jars and we created… Science Paint! It was crazy beautiful… AND everything that we painted with it came to life or would begin to sing songs. Basically the coolest thing ever.

  • Painting with Animals

Growing up my brother and I loved to make “tracks’ in the dirt and our PlayDoh with our trucks, toy animals and whatever we could get our hands on. So, the other night I was thinking to myself… why not make rainbow tracks with paint? I posted a tutorial a little over a week ago called Creating with Cars, and it was so fun! This week I thought we would try Painting with Animals! You little ones will love creating and imagining with their toy animals.

  • Creating with Cars

The past few years all of my nanny kids have been girls. I used to have loads of boys. But lately all of my crafts have been full of unicorns, hearts and glitter. Which don’t get me wrong… I LOVE. Well, now I have a nephew. So I have been thinking about fun things that I could do with him as he gets older that are slightly less girly. I know it’ll be quite a wait (he is only 2 weeks old)… but I can dream. Of course if you have little girls– they can totally do these projects too! I liked playing with cars when I was little too. :)

  • Yogurt Finger Paint

I am always looking for/thinking about things to do with baby. Just because they are little doesn’t mean that they should miss out on all the fun! Recently while hanging out with #MyLittleSweetPotatoPie, I tried out a little nanny hack I had learned from a fellow nanny friend– finger painting with yogurt. It was golden. Not only did my little buddy’s artwork turn out lovely, but it didn’t matter if she licked because it it’s totally edible. She loved it and so did I! If you want a project that is baby friendly, cheap and totally easy to make… this is the project for you!

  • Creating with Candy

Hi! It’s me, Sprinkles! I am Nickey’s pet unicorn, and the intern here at, Colors Are Magic.

Today I want to talk about…CANDY! I am sure that you have been seeing more of it than you wish to around your house due to Valentine’s Day… and guess what? Easter is just around the corner! So I thought it would be great to put together a little post about some fun ways you can use up that candy with your kids without having to consume all of it. Don’t be embarrassed, you’re not the only parent who sneaks a taste of their kid’s candy when they are sleeping. I know many of them!

  • Laffy Taffy Finger Paints

I am not going to lie… I love banana Laffy Taffy. It’s delicious… and smells amazing. It’s even my favorite color… yellow. So while walking up and down the Valentine’s aisle,  with Sprinkles, I decided to pick up a bag of Laffy Taffy. While painting Sprinkle’s hooves and munching on a piece, I got an idea. Why not try making finger paints out of them? Seriously, why not? We have been painting with a lot of candy lately. It’s been better for our teeth and adds more fun colors to hang on our refrigerator.

They turned out great and smelled amazing. If you would like to try creating with your candy instead of eating it, you should really try out this recipe!

  • Pixy Stix Watercolors

My pet unicorn, Sprinkles, is a big fan of Pixy Stix. I am not crazy about them… I am not huge on sour things and let’s face it– its like drinking straight up sugar. Unicorns, unlike humans, require a lot of unrefined sugar in their diets to stay healthy… so we keep them on hand. The orange ones are like vitamin C to unicorns. Last week I made Sprinkles a big bowl of mixed Pixy Stix powders. As I was pouring them into her bowl, I had an idea. I wonder if I mixed water into one of the colors I could make a paint. Well… it totally worked. So I made paints out of all the colors! Sprinkles was happy and so was I. Perfect.

  • Skittles Paint

So the other day Sprinkles and I were having  sleep over with some of our friends from the Cotton Candy Kingdom (The Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny). They both were really needing a little getaway. Apparently, 2015 was a huge year for losing teeth… and we all know Easter is really not that far off.  I thought it would be great to use the opportunity to invite our friends to Colorado for fun girls night/sleepover. We rented chick flicks, ordered pizza, and of course… set out a whole bunch of bright colorful candy.
