• Paintsicles

It was hot a few days ago. You know, the kind of day that is definitely “Popsicle weather”? Listen– Sprinkles and I will find any excuse that we can to have a popsicle (or 12…ha!).

Well, as we were sitting there enjoying our brilliantly rainbow popsicles and loving life, I had an idea. What if we could paint with them? Those sweet and vibrant colors would look so great on paper! Popsicle paint….. Paintsicles! Paintsicles are fun and beautiful…. however they are not edible– so do not let your little ones stick them in their mouths! read more

  • Kool-Aid Clouds

The other day my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I were babysitting my little niece. Now, normally we are not supposed to bring guests with us if we go visit Sprinkles’s family in the Cotton Candy Kingdom– but Mr. & Mrs. Unicorn have taken a liking to my niece (who wouldn’t really?).

It was a super fun trip. My niece got to meet the Tooth Fairy, a group of mermaids, and Jack Frost. You would think that meeting such icons would have wowed her. Nope. She was most obsessed with the fact the ground with made of rainbow clouds. She jumped on them. Rolled on them, Slid on them. She was so happy I was concerned that she may have a #heartexplosion. 😉

When we got home to Colorado… she really wanted to play in the rainbow clouds again. Unfortunately they don’t transport well…. so we have to come up with an idea so she could play in rainbow clouds at home. After searching the internet for hours, I came across a recipe from an amazing blogger.

{Growing A Jeweled Rose has a fun recipe on her blog for a Kool-Aid sensory bin and I loved it so much we filled a kiddie pool in the stuff! Ha. You should totally take a second and check out her stuff. She’s a genius!} read more

  • Textured Paint Rollers For Kids

It’s been super rainy here in Colorado the past few weeks, so my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I have been spending a lot of time in doors (and probably a little too much time hanging out with our good friend “Netflix”). Just like little kids, if Sprinkles watches too much TV and doesn’t have enough stimulation she gets a little cranky. So, while we were out at the grocery store with my parents the other night, I decided enough is enough and headed over to the craft section at Walmart.

  • Monster Spray

Ever since we relocated to Colorado (I love that color is in the name of our new state. How fitting) my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, has been a little shaken up– which totally understandable. I know this will sound crazy to some of you… but I think the contrast of having so much noise to fall asleep to in NYC to the absolute silence here near the mountains makes it harder for her to fall asleep. She can hear every little weird thing that is going on outside and thinks there are monsters in the house. After 2 weeks of sleepless nights I decided that it may be a good idea to make a trip to the Cotton Candy Kingdom and ask her parents how to deal with all of this.

  • The Family Time Bucket-List

Family Time. It is incredibly important. Sometimes in our hectic daily lives we have to schedule it in. Which is totally fine… as long as it is in there!  :)  Over the years I have had parents on several occasions, open up to me about how hard it is for them to come up with an idea for their family time. The truth is, your kids want to spend time time with you… even if sometimes it doesn’t seem like it. (Preteens. Enough said.) — so what you do doesn’t have to be complicated.

Well, we are a week into the new year and I am sure that like me, many of you have made resolutions and are looking forward to a fresh start in 2015. Why not add “spending more time together as a family” to your resolutions? If you do, here is my gift to you: The Family Time Bucket-List. I have compiled a list of 100 things I do with the children I nanny, as well as some of the ways my family spent time together growing up. Enjoy!

  • Grow A Candy Cane

A few days ago my pet unicorn and I had to run a couple of errands in the Cotton Candy Kingdom. There are some things that you just can’t get for unicorns in Manhattan. Anyhow, while we were there picking up a carton of  “Magic Milk Potion” and a bouquet of rainbows, we stumbled across something amazing. Candy Garden seeds. Seriously. They had a seed for basically any candy you could think of. All you had to do was buy the seeds and concockt the proper watering potion. Simple! We decided that since it is Christmas time that we would buy a packet of Candy Cane seeds to grow on the window sill of our apartment. It “bloomed” beautifully.

  • Holi-Dough

Play dough is an all time big hit in my apartment. My pet unicorn and I love to use our imaginations and create all sorts of fun things. Here are some of our favorite Christmas play doughs (aka “Holi-Doughs”… see what we did there?) They smell amazing and one of them even sparkles. Your kids are sure to have fun playing with their special festive doughs… and you will have time to clean up all of the Christmas dinner dishes. Perfect.

  • Candle Tattoos

Well Christmas is just around the corner! Lets just say the excitement is definitely building. This year, since New York rent is so high, my pet unicorn and I have decided to make gifts for our friends and family. There are a few ideas that we been kicking around, but this week we made “Candle Tattoos”.

You may be wondering what inspired this particular craft. Well, in the beginning of the year I got a tattoo. (A real one.) My pet unicorn isn’t allowed to get a tattoo because unicorns have an intolerance to the ink that is used. I felt bad… I know how much she has wanted to get a cupcake tattooed on her neck. So we came up with a fun way for her to create and play with tattoos at our apartment. While playing with our tattoos one afternoon and sticking them on non-conventional things… the “Candle Tattoo” was born.

  • Fairy Kissed Roses

Once, while taking my pet unicorn to visit her family in the Cotton Candy Kingdom, I noticed something very wonderful. Outside of each house in the unicorn neighborhood were all sorts of gorgeous flowers…. some were so bright that I thought wearing a pair of sunnies may be a wise decision. I do have human eyes after all. Of all the beautiful flowers there, one type caught my eye. The roses. They were not just your average run of the mill roses…. their edges were beautiful colors. They were not like the flowers who’s colors were so bright that they glowed. They were not 10 feet tall or blowing glitter in the wind. They were just….. lovely. I asked my unicorn if there was a way to find a packet of seeds in the Cotton Candy Kingdom so that I may be able to plant some of these beauties in New York. She told me that these actually were just regular white roses that she brought for her mother from New York for “Unicorn Mothers Day”. She said that fairies had come into the garden at night and kissed the edges of each petal. Fairy kisses are magic. When they kiss something it leaves behind a sort of rainbow airbrush effect on wherever the kiss lands.

  • Magic Turkeys

If you live in America, I am sure that you are aware that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. If you are a turkey living in America, I am sure that you are 10 times more aware than any human being (For obvious reasons that we won’t go into as children often read this blog).

But, did you know that there is a very special breed of turkey that not many people are aware of? They never have to lose a night sleep over the thought of Thanksgiving and live off of a diet mainly consisting of Candy Corn and other fall treats. They are called “Magic Turkeys”.
