Paintsicles

It was hot a few days ago. You know, the kind of day that is definitely “Popsicle weather”? Listen– Sprinkles and I will find any excuse that we can to have a popsicle (or 12…ha!).

Well, as we were sitting there enjoying our brilliantly rainbow popsicles and loving life, I had an idea. What if we could paint with them? Those sweet and vibrant colors would look so great on paper! Popsicle paint….. Paintsicles! Paintsicles are fun and beautiful…. however they are not edible– so do not let your little ones stick them in their mouths!

Here is what you will need:

– Acrlyic or Tempera Paint (The thicker the better.)

– Ice Cube Tray

– Craft Sticks/Popsicle Sticks

– Scissors

– Paper

-Freezer

Here’s what you do:

1.) Fill your ice cube tray with paint. Use Tempera or Acrylics (the thicker the better.) I used Acrylics. You can do solid colors or squeeze them in into layers or patterns.

2.) Cut your popsicle/craft sticks in half and place one in each “cube” like a popsicle.

3.) Place your Paintsicles flat in the freezer and let them freeze for a few hours. I let mine freeze overnight. They will not be hard like ice when they are done– but they will be solid.

4.) Carefully using a knife, cut along each side of your cubes to help them slide out of the tray.

5.) Paint your heart out!

I laid two old towels out on our front porch and set up a “Paintsicle Station” for the neighborhood kids. They loved it! It was a sad moment when I ran out of paper for them to use. Here are some of their melty-colorful-fantastic creations:

I hope you have fun enjoying the last days of summer with your Paintsicles!

Enjoy. x
