Monster Spray

Ever since we relocated to Colorado (I love that color is in the name of our new state. How fitting) my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, has been a little shaken up– which totally understandable. I know this will sound crazy to some of you… but I think the contrast of having so much noise to fall asleep to in NYC to the absolute silence here near the mountains makes it harder for her to fall asleep. She can hear every little weird thing that is going on outside and thinks there are monsters in the house. After 2 weeks of sleepless nights I decided that it may be a good idea to make a trip to the Cotton Candy Kingdom and ask her parents how to deal with all of this.

It is always good to see my unicorn’s parents. Whenever we go to visit they always make sure to have a table covered in a full candy and cupcake spread. It’s better than you can even imagine it! This trip was no exception. So, while I was stuffing my face with strawberry cupcakes topped in hot pink frosting, I brought up our sleeping dilemma.

They told me that Sprinkles used to have these same nightmares/scares as a foalicorn. Mrs. Unicorn said that after many sleepless nights, they went to see the Sleep Fairy and asked her for some pointers on getting her to calm down at night. The Sleep Fairy had many good ideas, but she recommended they start with a “Monster Spray” recipe. Mrs. Unicorn used her horn to zap a glowing purple index card in my hand that read:

Monster Spray Recipe:

1 tsp. Sunshine

1 1/2 tbsp. Rainbows

1 cup Purple Cotton Candy

2 Baby Laughs

1 pinch of Sugar

Instructions: Using your Monster Spray bottle, mist under the bed and into the closet to rid any monsters. Also, lightly spray your foalicorn’s pillow to help calm and soothe them.

Mrs. Unicorn said that it worked like a champ– so I took her up on it. Much to my surprise, she was right! Sprinkles went straight to sleep that night and didn’t wake until morning. What a lifesaver. If you need a night full of sleep too, I highly recommend trying this “human world” version Mrs. Unicorn had the Sleep Fairy convert for me.

Let’s get started….

Here’s what you’ll need:

– Spray Bottle

– Water

– Lavender Essential Oil

– Paper

– Glue Stick

Here’s what to do:

1. Create a label for your “Monster Spray”.  I used a monster sticker and makers to make mine. Be creative and go crazy. I added an ingredients list on my label for fun.

2.) Fill your bottle 3/4’s full with water and add 5-10 drops of lavender essential oils. I prefer dōTERRA, but you can use whatever brand you love. Lavender oil is very calming and will help your little ones wind down. Put your nozzle back on tightly and give is a good shake.

3.) Make sure the outside of your bottle is wiped dry of any water or oil. Using your glue stick, apply your “Monster Spray” label to your bottle.

4. Viola! You have done it. Now go in that bedroom and spray under those beds and in those closets to rid them of any monsters. Make sure to mist your children’s pillows lightly so the lavender can help to calm them.

(Note: The water in my spray bottle looks purple– but it just the reflection of the label. I originally wanted to add food coloring to the spray, but I did not want it to stain any carpets or pillows… so I ousted that idea.)

Sweet dreams!
