Monster-Doh

Monsters come in all shapes and sizes. Some are tall with wings, or are neon yellow with feathers and fangs. Some are tiny enough to fit comfortably in a thimble or as large as whale! There is a type of monster however, who has been overlooked.. and they need a just little TLC. Doh Monsters.

Much like a hermit crab who will out grow it’s shell and search for a new home, Doh Monsters are born like little lumps of clay and must find a protective jar to dwell in. Because they are indeed monsters… and I want to feel like it, they tend to look for jars that are decorated like monsters on the outside. They also enjoy some good playtime amongst human children and will come out of their jars to play. You see, Doh-Monsters are wonderful at shapeshifting and love to see children using their imaginations. But, if you are going to ever play with a Doh Monster just remember, they will need to go back into the jar home when you are done playing. If they stay out for too long they could turn to stone. No one wants that. It’s just sad.

If you would like to make your very own “Monster-Doh” at home and recreate a Doh Monster friend to play with… you are in luck! I have just the directions you need. They will be separated into two steps. Lets get started:

Step One: Monster Doh

(Serving of one Mason Jar)

Saucepan

1 cup water

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 cup salt

1 tablespoon cream of tartar

Food coloring

1 cup flour

Directions

1.) Combine your water, oil, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring in a saucepan and heat it all up until it’s warm.
2.) Remove saucepan from the heat and add flour.
3.) Stir, then knead until smooth. The cream of tartar makes this doh last months longer! So make sure to grab some if you don’t already have in on hand.
4.) Store your Monster-Doh in your Mason Jar or in an airtight container when you are done playing.

Part Two: Monster Jars

(Anything else fun to stick on: stickers, glitter, buttons, ext)

Hot glue gun.

(Parents make sure to assist your kiddos when using a hot glue gun.)

I would give you directions here… but that would just stunt your creativity. Make you monster jars however you would like and let your imagination run wild!

This could be super fun to do at a kids birthday party if you are going with a monster theme. It could also be fun at a sleepover! Why don’t you make tents in the living room, rent Monsters Inc, and make Monster Doh for fun on a Friday night? Your kids and their friends will love it. If that sounds like too much for you– a rainy day or just for no reason at all is a perfectly good opportunity to  try making these.

Enoy! xo

  1. Oh! You don’t have a g+ share. You have all the others but not that one and of course, that’s the one I most want to share on! Love this. Doing this recipe for a gazillion years and never once did I think “store in mason Jars!” what a fantastic idea! Love the different monsters too. And there is a book that can go with that about a kid who’s “monster” goes on vacation and can’t find the right monster to replace him…”I Need My Monster.” by Amanda Noll

    • Thank you for your beautiful comments! I am glad you enjoyed the posts. I will have to play around with google + … I have never sat down to figure it out, ha ha (embarrassing).
