Hot Chocolate Clay

It was an extremely windy day here in the Colorado Springs area yesterday. I don’t love windy days. I love rainy days, snowy days, even slightly breezey days…. but the windy ones can just take a hike. It messes up my hair… and the most annoying of all, it makes my hair stick to my lipgloss. Needless to say, I decided to keep Sprinkles (my pet unicorn) and I in last night. We decided to make some homemade clay with items we had around laying around the house. And of course, like all cold or windy nights, we whipped up some hot chocolate. We will take any excuse we can to make hot chocolate (cover in whip cream and sprinkled in mini marshmallows). YUM.

While I was mixing together our clay ingredients into a bowl, Sprinkles tripped. Normally I would feel terrible about her tripping and spilling all of them hot chocolate… but this time it was awesome. All her hot chocolate splattered right into the clay mix. After checking to see if Sprinkles wasn’t hurt, I looked down into the clay bowl. Our white clay had turned brown and there was an amazing chocolatey aroma coming from it. Sprinkles was crying and apologizing as she thought she had ruined the clay. I told her she didn’t ruin it… she had make it even better. And with that…. Hot Chocolate  Clay was born.

If you would like to make some homemade clay that smells and looks like chocolate… look no further. Here is the recipe for you.

2. Combine baking soda, corn starch, and chocolatey mixture into a large pot and stir well. (No glitter yet.)

3.) Place your pot on medium to high heat and stir continuously.

Note: The mixture will begin to bubble. Keep stirring until your clay starts to thicken up. The consistency will resemble the thickness of mashed potatoes.

4.) Remove your pot from the heat and pour your clay into a bowl. Cover with a cold wet towel until cooler.

5.) Knead your clay. It will begin to take form and become pliable. (Knead glitter in as well.)

6.) Play! Sprinkles and I used some small mugs and mini marshmallows white we played “coffee shop” with our Hot Chocolate Clay. It was a blast!
