Halloween Crayons

It is October and Halloween is upon us! This year instead of handing out a plethora of high fructose corn syrup, Sprinkles and I have decided to hand out some fun alternatives. One of those being some super fun Halloween Crayons! Halloween is already pretty dark– let’s add a little color!

My mom used to do this with my brother and I when we were little. If we had lots of broken crayons accumulating, she would get out a muffin tin and we would make big, bright, tie-dye-esk crayons. I loved it! It’s very simple to do & the all the little princesses and cowboys that come trick-or-treating at your door are sure to love them too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

– Broken crayons

– Halloween themed silicone baking tray

– A cookie sheet

– Oven

Here’s what to do:

**If you don’t have broken crayons to recycle… have no fear. Just run down to the store and pick up a pack of crayons. I would get a lot of them if you are planning on handing them out at Halloween. I bought 2 boxes of 120 and made about 50 Halloween Crayons for my first round.)

1.) Preheat your oven to 250* F.

2.) Next, peel off any wrappers from your crayons and break crayons into small pieces.

3.) Place your crayon pieces into a Halloween themed silicon baking tray.

4.) Place your crayon filled baking tray onto a cookie sheet and bake in oven for 15-20 mins. (I am at a higher altitude in Colorado… so it took about 20-25 minutes.)

5.) Remove the trays from your oven and let them cool. I stick my silicon tray directly into the freezer and leave for about 10-12 minutes.

6.) Remove your new crayons from the tray and color!

(Note: If you are planning on handing these out at Halloween, you can pick up some nice little jewelry ziplock baggies at a local craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Mine fit nicely.)
