Boo Goo (Halloween Gak)

It was a dark and stormy night…. well… no it wasn’t– but it makes for a better Halloween story. Anyhow, on this particular Wednesday afternoon, my pet unicorn, Sprinkles, and I were trying to come up with some creative sugar alternatives to hand out to our little Trick-or-Treaters this Halloween. We have already made some very fun and colorful Halloween Crayons (which I am stoked about!) — but we wanted to have some sort of sensory project for our Halloween Porch Party!

As we sat on the front porch brainstorming, we rattled off a bunch of words that made us think of Halloween. When we got to monsters, we came up with the following words: roar, teeth, furry, slimy…. gooey… goo– and Boo Goo was born. It is creepy, gooey, fun! You should totally try it at home with your own sweet little monsters.

Here’s how to make your very own batch of Boo Goo:

BOWL ONE:

* 2 Cups Elmer’s white or clear glue (or black glitter glue)

* 1 cup of very warm water

* Glitter (If you’d like a little extra sparkle! I do not use in this batch)

* Black food coloring (or whatever color your heart desires!)

Combine the above ingredients in a bowl and mix well

BOWL TWO:

* 1 tsp Borax
* 1  cup of very warm water

Once the ingredients of both bowls are mixed– combine them and mix well. As you mix the ingredients the Boo Goo will begin form. There will be left over water in the bowl which can be discarded. If the slime is at all runny or overly sticky simply dissolve a tiny amount of Borax in a teaspoon of water and mix it into the goo. I used a pack of small sized goggly eyes at the end for play. Store in an airtight container or ziplock bag.

(Note: Your little ones hands will be messy from the food coloring, but will wash clean with soap and water. If you would like to avoid the messy, opt for the black glitter glue route.  Make sure to place in a sensory bin.)

Have a happy and safe Halloween!

Love, Nickey & Sprinkles xo
